"Smart Carpet Inc is a shop at home retailer operating throughout New Jersey, Eastern Pensylvania and Staten Island (www.smartcarpet.com). We have six sales offices and four workrooms where our subcontractors pick the flooring that needs to be installed in the customer's home as well as purchasing supplies and incidental materials necessary for product installation. Over the past three years we have installed flooring in approximately 36,000 homes. Smart Carpet manages the financial parts of its business with a combination of an internally developed sales order system combined with QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions (Enterprise) and QuickBooks Point of Sale Solutions (POS). Out IT team consists of a director, a programmer and a systems administrator who originally installed the QuickBooks programs. Originally we were having difficulty with transactions generated by the POS system updating properly in the Enterprise system. The problem was ongoing and our internal IT staff could not resolve the problem after many months of trying. Hart had given a very effective presentation to the NJSCPA at their annual convention about the power of QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions so when our internal IT staff could not resolve the problem I called him. It turns out that the original installation of the POS system, by an internal IT staff was incorrect. The Parent/Child relationship between the POS system and the Enterprise Solutions was backward. We had the child telling the parent what to do! Hart diagnosed the problem immediately, instructed our IT staff to send him the required files and was able to correct the problem. We did this without any downtime or lost work time. Our workrooms are open six days a week so Hart worked over the weekend to correct the problems and sent us the files in the correct order and we were able to install them before the workrooms opened at 7:00 AM on Monday. We contacted Hart on a Friday afternoon and we had a solution implemented by Monday morning.
In the fall of 2007 we received Version 8 of QuickBooks Enterprise solutions. The software did not work correctly. Out IT department worked with QuickBooks technical support to try and resolve the problems. We could not reslove the problems so the QuickBooks technical support and our internal IT staff decided the only solution was to uninstall it. In the fall of 2008 we received version 9 of QuickBooks. Our IT department installed Version 9 on our system and once again we had problems immediately. Unfortunately our IT department and the QuickBooks technical support could not resolve the problems caused by the installation of Version 9. We were faced with being two versions behind since we were still using Version 7. This time I decided to call Hart. He came to our location and in one day had Version 9 of the software properly installed and running perfectly. That same day he trained us on the back up procedures, various file integrity checks and some data compression that enabled our system to run more efficiently. We were so impressed with Hart's abilities we entered into a support contract/maintenance agreement with him.
Hart is the ultimate IT professional. His advice is sound, his problem solving ability unparalleled, and his speedy response is impressive. He works well with all levels of the organization. He understands the needs of everyone from the controller, to the IT manager, to the accounting staff and he is able to communicate solutions with a rare combination of knowledge, humor, and authority.
